Matador bug walking around with friends
Saw this matador bug earlier today and filmed it but it didn't move. I went out several times throughout the day to film it again and caught it moving around. There's a green and black bug to its bottom left which is hard to see but I don't know what it is. Has lumpy antennae. If you know, chime in. Another flying bug showed up on the flower too which is really colorful (also unknown). So many things love passion vine. Tons of caterpillars were all on one leaf (why they didn't just spread out I don't know...safety in numbers?) munching away until they move onto the next one.

Matador Bug on Passion Flower in Panama
Просмотров 9614 дней назад
Noticed this gorgeous bug on the passion vine first then lost sight of it. Went out later to find it right in front of me on this flower that had only just opened in the time I'd been away. Now I know where to look! They apparently wave their legs around like flags but it isn't to attract a mate according to the Smithsonian.
Baby Chipmunks Exploring the World
Просмотров 45Месяц назад
I looked out over my balcony today and saw a bunch of baby chipmunks! I don't know if this was their first foray out in the world because I think I would've noticed them before. I was able to go downstairs and film, then by the end of the video I was a couple feet away. At 2:43 mark, one pulls on the other's finger. At the 6:50 mark, mom shows up with full cheeks and one baby follows her. That'...

Newt Mating Dance

I went to see the newts and got a show! Here are a few different techniques I caught on camera. There were many of them doing this mating ritual. I did not know that male newts lack a penis. This description was taken from livescience.com: Newts breed in water and males don't have penises to impregnate females internally. Instead, male and female newts have an orifice called a cloaca, which lea...

Platypus in Maleny, Queensland

Some footage of the cute platypus in Maleny at the viewing platform, a short walk from town. Was active in the morning and even mid afternoon (3ish). Also at dawn (was told it was also seen by the bridge/boardwalk by the cafes & shops). Can get down close to the water to get better photos/videos by going under the bridge along the footpath.

Ok, a professional filmmaker, I am not. But this is the best I could do over a period of three days in Maleny at the platypus viewing platform. This is tricky as the platypus are constantly moving and only come up for air for a few seconds before disappearing again. There was only the one there, but hey...when do you ever get to see these in the wild!? I feel very fortunate. So those who can't,...

How long can you keep the liquid after harvesting? Can it be frozen? Do you need to refrigerate it? I have much liquid and many plants, but they die off in winter, so I would like to be able to save some in jars. Does it spoil?

Good question...It is a ginger plant so I don't see why not. I actually don't recall if I had used any back then. However, a quick google search said that ornamental ginger, like this shampoo plant one is bitter and not worth eating. Learn something new everyday!

    • @steveandrews8301
      @steveandrews8301 4 года назад

@@StephDeLaGarza Thanks, Steph. I think I'm going to just have to try it and find out for myself. I just got done digging a bunch of the roots up, today, clearing an area to plant flowers, this spring. Man, these roots are prolific, too, and big, and they look almost just like "regular" ginger. They smell quite nice, so, maybe they won't taste too bad, lol. I'll find out and try to let you know. And sometimes "bitter" things, eg. "bitter almonds, bitter apricot seeds, etc. are very good for you - containing amygdalin / Vit. B-17, a mild and non toxic form of cyanide if eaten in moderation that kills cancer. #rawapricotkernals / #B17 / #amgdalin.

Lambs are the most gentle, pure, innocent, simple, peaceful little animals that there are. Thank you for being so kind and loving to this wonderful lamb. It really hurts me how so many other innocent peaceful little lambs just like this one are being mistreated and slaughtered. How could these animals ever deserve that just for something for us to eat, when there are millions of other things in this world for us to eat? We need more people like you treating them with kindness, love, and keeping them safe

Even though less than half of 1% carry the rabies virus its still a chance you dont want to take..PLEASE do NOT touch a bat if you come across one. Call your local wildlife rescue or bat rescue. You can contract rabies from a bat by simply touching it and you happen to have a small cut on your hand the saliva from the bats skin can enter your wound. It can take 8 to 10 days for any animal to exhibit symptoms of rabies and its not like in the movies where every one of them is foaming at the mouth and acting mad. You may not notice the poor animal has the virus. If you see a bat on the ground during the day it means something is wrong so please call a professional.

I was watching another video that said that you aren’t supposed to cut these flowers. It is more practical to squeeze the shampoo juice into a jug and leave the plant in the ground because it will fill up with water if left in the ground.

We live in south Mississippi, USA where there is lots of rain and a subtropical climate. But there are times when we have drought like conditions and intense heat. The ginger plants are in part shade/part sun and most of the time high and dry. I am just about to harvest the cones and plan to use the juice combined with Dr. Bonners Castile Soap for shampoo. I do not like the Castile by itself, but I am hoping this will improve the shampoo by adding the juice. The scent is incredible!
